Town guide
Whitstable is a town in the Canterbury district, and Canterbury City Council is the local authority. The National Archives says Whitstable Urban District Council was dissolved in 1974, when services in the town passed to the newly created Canterbury City Council.
Visit Canterbury’s Whitstable Harbour pages say Whitstable is a municipal harbour owned by Canterbury City Council. Visit Canterbury has a page on fish and seafood at Whitstable Harbour, so check each business for its opening hours. Canterbury City Council’s business parking permit page names Keam’s Yard, Middle Wall and Gorrell Tank among the car parks in the town. Tariffs and rules change, so check the council’s current parking pages before you travel.
Whitstable Museum and Gallery is at 5A Oxford Street. The Kent Historic Environment Record says it opened in the former Foresters’ Hall in 1985, and the museum’s own website has a page on whelk and oyster fishing. Check the museum’s website for opening times.
Whitstable station is on Old Bridge Road, and Southeastern’s station page lists its staffing, ticket office hours and facilities. Check National Rail for which operators call and for current journey times.
