Town guide
Faversham is in the borough of Swale, and Swale Borough Council is the local authority, with its offices at Swale House on East Street in Sittingbourne. Faversham Town Council also serves the town.
Faversham Town Council says Faversham is a limb of Dover in the Confederation of the Cinque Ports, and the Confederation’s website says the town’s barons were granted the liberties of the ports as early as 1302. In Market Place, Historic England lists the Guildhall at Grade II* (list entry 1343844), and Kent’s Historic Environment Record says it was built as a market hall in 1574 and rebuilt in 1814.
Visit Swale says Faversham’s street market is held around the Guildhall in Market Place and Court Street on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, so check Visit Swale for current times. The Faversham Society runs the Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre on Preston Street, and Visit Swale’s listing says museum admission is free.
Faversham station is on Station Road and is managed by Southeastern, whose station page lists ticket office hours and live departures. Check National Rail for which operators call and for current journey times.
Swale Borough Council’s parking orders name Front Brents among its Faversham car parks, and Visit Swale describes the Central Car Park, reached from Leslie Smith Drive. Tariffs and rules change, so check the council’s car park pages before you travel.
