Your friendly guide to everything Kent

Accessibility statement

How we make InKent usable for everyone, the parts we are still improving, and how to tell us about a problem.

The short version

We want everyone to be able to use InKent, whatever device you use and however you browse. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Most of the site does, and we are working on the parts that do not yet. If something gets in your way, please tell us and we will help.

What you should be able to do

  • Use the whole site with a keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are and a link at the top of each page to skip straight to the content.
  • Use a screen reader. Pages have a clear heading structure and labelled sections, images have text descriptions, and every form field has a label.
  • Zoom in to 200% or more without text being cut off, and use the site on a phone or tablet in either orientation.
  • Read text that has enough contrast against its background.
  • Turn off animation. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site’s movement effects switch off.
  • Find accessible places, events and groups using the Accessible filter, where a venue or organiser has told us about its access.

Parts that may not be fully accessible

We know about these and are working on them:

  • Maps. Our maps can be hard to use with a keyboard or screen reader. Every place shown on a map also has its address written out on the page, and a Directions link.
  • Information from businesses, venues and organisers. Some descriptions, images and flyers come from the businesses, venues and groups we list. We check them before they go live, but a supplied image may not always have a full text description.
  • Other websites. Links to business, event and group websites take you to sites we do not run, and we cannot answer for their accessibility. Links that open in a new tab say so to screen readers.
  • Venue access details. Accessibility information for venues and events comes from the venue or organiser. Please check with them before you travel if you have specific needs.

If you need information in a different format

If you need something on InKent in another format, such as large print, plain text or read out over the phone, contact us and tell us what you need. We will get back to you within 7 working days.

Reporting a problem

If you find a problem that is not listed here, or you think we are not meeting the standard, please let us know. Tell us the page you were on and what happened, and we will look into it.

We aim to reply within 7 working days.

How we test the site

We check the site’s main page types, including the homepage, listings, business, event and group pages, town pages and forms, for headings, labels, text descriptions, keyboard use, focus visibility and colour contrast. We check again whenever we make significant changes to the design.
