Town guide

About Deal

Deal is a town in the Dover district, and Dover District Council is the district council. Dover District Council lists Deal Town Council among the four town councils in its area, and the Deal council’s website says it represents three wards, Middle Deal, Mill Hill and North Deal, and is made up of 15 councillors. Walmer, which adjoins Deal, has its own town council.

Deal’s seafront has two landmarks. English Heritage looks after Deal Castle on Marine Road, and its history pages cover the Tudor fort Henry VIII had built. Check English Heritage’s website for prices and opening times. Kent’s Historic Environment Record, in its record for the site of the first two Deal piers, says the present reinforced concrete pier was built between 1954 and 1957.

The Confederation of the Cinque Ports lists Deal among its member towns, and its limbs page lists Deal under Sandwich. The Deal Maritime and Local History Museum is at 22 St George’s Road, and White Cliffs Country lists free entry. It is run by volunteers, and its opening is seasonal, so check the museum’s own website before you go.

Getting there and around

Deal station is on Queen Street, and Southeastern’s station page lists its facilities and ticket office hours. Check National Rail for which operators call and for current journey times. Dover District Council’s find somewhere to park page lists parking locations in Dover, Deal and Sandwich and has a map of its car parks, and tariffs change, so check it before you drive.
