Town guide
Southborough is a town and civil parish in the borough of Tunbridge Wells, and the parish includes the High Brooms district. Southborough Town Council has its offices at the Civic Centre on London Road.
The Town Council’s listed assets include Southborough Common, Holden Pond and Southborough Cemetery. The council says it owns the Common, and the Common’s own website says the Town Council took ownership of it in 1967. At borough level, the High Brooms ward has one councillor and the Southborough and Bidborough ward has three.
High Brooms has an industrial past, and Kent’s Historic Environment Record includes a record for a former brick and tile works there. The Record is a good place to start if you want to read about how the area developed.
High Brooms station serves the area, and National Rail lists Southeastern as its manager. It opened in 1893 under the name Southborough and has been called High Brooms since 1925. Check National Rail for current services and times.
If you are driving, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council’s car parks pages explain that you can pay by phone with RingGo in most of its car parks. Check the council’s pages for the one nearest your destination before you travel.
