Town guide
Dartford is a town in Kent, built around a crossing of the River Darent.
The Dartford Crossing links Kent and Essex across the Thames and connects with the M25 at both ends. The first tunnel opened in 1963, the second in 1980 and the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge in 1991, according to National Highways.
Kent County Council’s Historic Environment Record includes an entry for Dartford as a Saxon settlement, royal manor and trade centre, so the town’s history reaches back to the Saxon period.
Dartford Borough Museum is on Market Street, in the same building as the library. The council’s museum page lists current opening times and any closures.
Dartford station is on the Southeastern network with trains to London. Southeastern’s Dartford to London page has fares and times, and live departures change through the day, so check before you travel.
Dartford Borough Council lists its pay and display car parks and on-street bays on its website, with the ways to pay, including a mobile app. Season tickets are available for several council car parks. The Victoria Road car park near the station is run by APCOA and takes payment by app or card, not cash.
The borough also takes in Greenhithe and Swanscombe, which are covered separately on InKent.
