Town guide
Sandwich is a town in the Dover district, and Sandwich Town Council is one of the four town councils that Dover District Council lists for its area. White Cliffs Country says the Guildhall is home to the town’s archives, the Town Council and Sandwich Visitor Information Centre.
The Fisher Gate on The Quay is listed at Grade I (list entry 1069601) and is also a scheduled monument (list entry 1005184). Historic England dates its lower parts to about 1384 and its upper parts to 1578, and its scheduling entry lists the other gates of the medieval town, including the Barbican.
The Guildhall Museum’s own website gives its opening days, and older directory listings differ, so check the website before you visit. Visit South East England lists admission as free. The Confederation of the Cinque Ports lists Sandwich among its member towns, and its limbs page lists Deal under Sandwich. Its limbs page also lists Ramsgate under Sandwich.
Sandwich station is on St George’s Road, and National Rail lists Southeastern as its manager. Southeastern’s station page gives ticket office hours and facilities, and National Rail’s journey planner shows who runs each train.
Dover District Council’s electric vehicle charging page names The Quay, Gazen Salts and Guildhall car parks in Sandwich, with charge points at each, and its find somewhere to park page covers parking in the district. Charges change, so look at the council’s pages again before you set off.
