Town guide
Tonbridge is a town on the River Medway in the borough of Tonbridge and Malling, not Tunbridge Wells, which is a different town in a different borough. Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council has its main offices at Gibson Drive in Kings Hill, West Malling, rather than in Tonbridge itself.
Tonbridge Castle stands on the north bank of the Medway beside an old ford, according to Kent’s Historic Environment Record, which also places the gatehouse in the 13th century. Historic England schedules the site as a monument (list entry 1013359) and lists the castle at Grade I (list entry 1363369). The castle is owned by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, and its visit page gives the address as Castle Street, with a pay and display car park close to the grounds.
Tonbridge station is on Barden Road, according to Southeastern’s station page. More than one train operator calls there, so use National Rail for current services and journey times.
For parking, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s directory lists the Castle Grounds car park on Castle Street, which has 22 standard bays and 7 disabled bays. The council also lists other Tonbridge car parks in its A to Z directory. Charging periods and tariffs change, so check the council’s page before you travel.
