Margate Caves

Family Friendly

Chalk caves beneath Northdown Road with self-guided visits, a Discovery Room and a visitor centre. Open Wednesday to Sunday; steps only.

About Margate Caves

Margate Caves are a set of chalk caves under Northdown Road, visited by self-guided walk with cave guides on hand. The site has a visitor centre with a cafe and shop, and it hosts Christmas at the Caves from 28 November to 23 December 2026. The caves have steep steps and are not accessible to wheelchair users.

Accessibility

Not accessible to wheelchair users or anyone with significant mobility problems: two sets of stairs with handrails then a steep, narrow tunnel with an uneven floor. The visitor centre (shop, cafe, toilets) is widely accessible. Assistance dogs welcome. Fiddle kits and ear defenders available.

Where it is

Details checked against the venue on 31 October 2026. Opening times change, so confirm before you travel.
