Birchington is a village and civil parish on the Thanet coast. The name was first recorded in 1240 as Birchenton, and the parish council says it means a farm where birch trees grow. All Saints’ Church dates from about 1350, and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, died in Birchington in 1882 and is buried in the churchyard. Quex Park, just south of the village, is home to the Powell-Cotton Museum.
