Castles & History, Family Days Out

Dover Castle

Family Friendly

Medieval castle above the port with the Great Tower, Secret Wartime Tunnels tour, Roman pharos and Saxon church, run by English Heritage.

About Dover Castle

Dover Castle is run by English Heritage. The Great Tower dates from the 1180s. Visitors can also take the Secret Wartime Tunnels tour, see the Anglo-Saxon church of St Mary-in-Castro and a Roman pharos, and visit the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and Queen’s Regiment Museum. At the time of checking the Operation Dynamo section of the tunnels was closed for maintenance and the Underground Hospital was not accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter. English Heritage members enter free; booking online in advance saves up to 15%. Ticket prices are shown by date on the booking page.

Accessibility

The Underground Hospital is not accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter (English Heritage's booking page; its access page says to ask staff about suitability). Wheelchair access to the Great Tower is ground floor only. Blue badge bays, accessible toilets and guide, hearing and assistance dogs are listed by White Cliffs Country.
