About Walmer Castle and Gardens
Walmer Castle and Gardens is run by English Heritage on Kingsdown Road. At the time of checking, the castle interiors including the Lord Warden’s apartments were closed for essential maintenance, with a ticket discount applied, while more than eight acres of gardens stayed open. Opening is given as daily 10am to 4pm, last entry 3pm. English Heritage also lists free entry for RHS members on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 November to 20 December 2026.
Accessibility
English Heritage's access page lists the Broadwalk, Queen Mother's Garden and Woodland Walk as accessible on smooth gravel paths; the Kitchen Garden and Meadow are partly accessible. The castle and moat are reached by stairs only, with no lift, and the Glen by steps (with a viewing area for wheelchair users). Accessible toilets, wheelchair and mobility scooter loan and limited disabled parking are listed; no adult changing area. Assistance dogs are welcome.
